Interview - Benjamin Barker - Merseyside Nighthawks

Here is pre season interview number two, keeping it North West before the cross over to the East of country we have with us Benjamin Barker of the Nighthawks. I have been lucky enough to play against and coach Ben and very excited that he answered our questions as he is a model player and a great guy.

Q1, What is your name, height, weight, position, team?

Benjamin Barker, 5.11,183, WR, Merseyside Nighthawks, #11

Q2, How has the off season treated you?

Preseason involved a transfer from premier  finalists Coventry Jets to MN. Got a teaching job in Merseyside hence the move.

Team is in an incredibly strong position. Young dedicated core of players, very talented O, bruising D, dedicated coaching staff!! Goals - post season!! Simple!!

Q4, Which game are you most looking forward to this season and why?

@ Rams (played for them for 2 years a few seasons back), so grudge match vs good football mates!!

Make bicep Bands worn around the knee compulsory!! More TV coverage of key games!

Thanks Ben!

Interview - Gavin Sutton - Manchester Titans

Well now for something a little more serious...(Not that the transfer news isn't true they were just presented a little differently to normal.)

Time for our first interview and we're starting as we mean to go on, talking to a player who is pure passion. I have know Gav for many years and was aware he was a big fan for a long time before he started to play. Pretty high off an excellent championship season here are his answers to my standard questions.

Q1, What is your name, height, weight, position, team

Gavin Sutton, 6foot, 302lbs, DT/Assit Defensive Coach, Manchester Titans.

Q2, How has the off season treated you?

Badly, I missed the majority of last season with a torn calf, during the off season I re injured the calf and will now miss this season too.

Q3, Where is your team at in terms of preparation and what are your expectations for the coming year

We are training hard and the last couple of weeks we have really looked like a team that can make the step up, Another britbowl appearance maybe on the cards :) We now have the taste.

Q4, Which game are you most looking forward to this season and why?

EKP away, long away trips over night are cool.

Q5, If you could change one thing in UK football what would be? (you can be a dreamer here and go wild, or a simple actual change you'd like to see)

Dreamer, Pro football league :) Realistic, maybe a bit more sponsorship money pumped into to maybe reduce the player fees. This could widen the search for players who cant afford subs as well as kit.

Thanks Gavin, what an honour to be selected for interview number 1! All the best for a speedy recovery, but with your passion and knowledge I'm sure you'll be an excellent coach and good luck for the season.

Mustang Patrol

Well here is an eye opening article submitted by Lee Davies, Doncaster Mustangs new signing...

2008/2009 BUAFL All Star Right Tackle Nathan Webster of the Doncaster Mustangs discovered that fellow All Star Linemen Lee Davies and Tom Crosier were part of a group of disgruntled group of players in the North who were looking to relocate their talents. Nathan found that he had a chance of enticing Lee "Tank" Davies, Tom "Giant Man" Crosier, Sam "Hightower" Hodgson and Matthew "Day Walker" Carney the 120 miles to Doncaster and became (moist) excited by the prospect of developing a premiership caliber offensive line. Nathan harassed the groups agent Lee Davies until a deal was made whereby the signing bonus was coverage on the teams website and a bag of HARIBO Tangfastics to share. The group attended their first training session on Sunday 20th March where they realised they had made the correct decision. After a very hard hitting successful session the group committed their future to Doncaster by signing the correct papers and had this to say when questioned;

Sam - " I am really excited about Doncaster this season, I hope to be a light for all trans-gender footballers out there and promise to do everything I can to get the 'Stangs into the Prem"

Tom - " Representing homosexuals in the sport of American Football is very important to me, its something i have been aiming for since i first took up the sport in 2006 for the Newcastle Raiders where i also discovered my true sexuality, I hope I can put my talents to good use within Doncaster."

Lee - " I'm really glad there are no women in division one [He isn't sexist, he was unfortunately jacked up by a female DB and hasn't really got over it, RRP], I have found it very difficult to come to terms with being beaten by the fairer sex over a year ago and the images and memories haunt me. Without women in the league I can do my best and use all my talent to represent the 'Stangs and get them promoted"

Matt - " I really like the atmosphere down there. There happens to be another day walker on the team so I'm not alone and they respect me for 'who' I am rather than 'what' I am, as long as they keep suppling me with suncream I will continue to perform to the best of my ability and will do everything possible to get us into the prem"

End of article.

So fighting words from some of the Mustang new boys, with a few more additions already made the Mustangs look like a force to b reckoned with. Rumours of a triple Tank nickname dance off are unfortunately just that so far. However if it happens RRP will be the first to bring you video evidence of their titanic struggle to keep their nickname. With their former Miami Hurricane and Dallas Cowboy reportedly lining up at FB it looks like the Mustangs will be bringing the power game this year.

Transfer Rumours Ahoy!

Just working on the first major article and the more I dig the more gold I find! This is shaping up to be a crazy year in terms of team rosters.

Top 3 Rumours to whet the appetite!

The Senators have signed a champion power lifter who is a natural NT and is tearing practice up.

Mustangs sign an entire Oline from Newcastle Raiders (BUAFL) players and coaches, all former All Stars or above and most were Senators last season.

Pete Rogers ends his tenure as Rams QB, to where? You'll have to read the full article...

Welcome one and all...

Welcome to a Summer project that has risen from a few drunken conversations and my shattered knees. I have decided this year to take a break from BAFACL football but just can't tear myself away completely. If you can't do, coach, if you can't coach, blog!

I aim to use this website to stay close to friends and the game I love over the Summer. For that reason I am going to focus of BAFACL Div 1 North as it is my local league of the highest standard and I have many friends and contacts scattered over the division. I may from time to time pop in and investigate other leagues or big games but the main agenda is to highlight the stories from this greatly competitive division.

BAFACL Div 1 North is comprised of current champions East Kilbride Pirates, Doncaster Mustangs, Gateshead Senators, Merseyside Nighthawks, Yorkshire Rams and the newly promoted Manchester Titans. The season is shaping up to be the best in memory as all 6 teams are looking competitive in early season and many impressive moves have been made in rosters and also in the corporate side of things.

In the last few pre season weeks (1st game is on April 10th, Pirates @ Senators RRP, Nighthawks @ Mustangs) I hope to run an interview with at least one member of each team, a quick run down of last year, and my overall pre season rankings. Weekly features will be Play of the Week (fan submissions gladly accepted), RRPMVP, predictions, scores and more.

Hope you will come back and follow RRP as the season unfolds.
